Imagination Station

Last week I told Shelby our TV's were broken. I decided to "break" our TV's because I was noticing Shelby preferred to watch TV over playing with her toys or going outside. I don't mind Shelby watching TV or her favorite movie now and then, but when she wanted to watch it all the time I felt like Mama Bear in "The Berenstain Bears and Too Much TV."

The first day without TV was more annoying than difficult. Shelby kept trying to turn the TV on and I kept telling her it didn't work. She figured it out soon enough, but she still tried to get it to work when she lost interest in her toys. The next day was a piece of cake and the day after that we both forgot we used to watch TV.

Now, that we no longer watch TV Shelby has become more involved playing with her toys and going outside, again. We love it. And I love watching her imagination at work.

Today, after breakfast instead of wanting to watch cartoons (like she would have wanted before) she wanted help building a fort. Forts are her new favorite thanks to her dad. We built a good fort - perfect for reading books in and jumping around on.

This is a great idea! I'm becoming annoyed with how much TV my kids and I are watching too. Very smart move, Ann!
