Access Granted!

After Travis graduated from college in 2006 he has worked at places where security is a big deal.  Because of this I haven't seen the inside of Travis' office ever since he started working.  When he worked at Boeing he had to lock up all his work documents at the end of the day and there were guards watching the entrances/exits monitoring everyone who came and went.  His job here in Portland is much more laid back, but I am still not allowed to come inside.  However, Travis was granted special permission from the general manager to bring us inside so his co-workers could meet Gretchen.  I was a bit underwhelmed once we walked inside.  I guess I was expecting some high-tech computers and cool looking cubicles or an amazing workspace, like this:

The inside looked just like the inside of an old college building.  White walls, lockers and even a small kitchen area with a cheap, dirty microwave.  His office looked like a research room I used in college; filing cabinets, papers everywhere, chalkboards and desks covered in books and notes.  Everyone we met was named John; that was weird.

Shelby was thrilled to be inside; Everywhere she turned a nice lady was giving her candy and making googly eyes at Gretchen.  She pretended to work when she sat at her dad's desk and determined that her dad has the coolest job ever.  Afterwards, Travis treated us to a lunch at Costco; hot dogs and soda.  It couldn't have been any cooler for little Miss Shelby.  I'm glad she's easy to please.  As for Gretchie, she fell asleep as soon as we got to the car; getting attention is exhausting.
