Rocky Mountain High, Colorado

We started off our trip with a 12-hour drive to Orem, UT so we could see our nephew, Bjorn, get baptized.  Shelby looks upset, but she really is happy about our road trip.

Rest stops are always fun.  Travis spent most of our rest stop time being chased by Shelby and Cinderella.

At about 9 pm we busted out the laptop and let Shelby watch Cinderella.  I think she was a little excited about that...

After Bjorn's baptism we had the kiddos takes pictures with the grandparents.

Travis and I wanted to buy a new tent so we made a trip to Cabela's to check take a look at a few of them.

I was so excited to see that Colorado sign.   It was my first time back to Colorado in 10 years.

My family moved to Colorado in December of '81 when I was 3 years old.  The Colorado shirt Shelby is wearing is the shirt my parents brought back to us when they bought our house in Colorado.  The shirt turned out to be Shelby's favorite shirt during our trip...up until we found her a new Denver Bronco t-shirt that is.

Elmo was busy taking pictures of everything.

We camped at Glacier Basin Campground.  We camped there a lot when I was younger, but it looked much different back then.  Since I've been gone the mountain pine beetle destroyed most of the trees in the camp and the trees were chopped down a few years ago. Stupid beetle.

Our view from the tent was awesome though.

We drove to Boulder to visit with Uncle Jan, Aunt Jean and Grandma Lund.

We spent one afternoon walking around Bear Lake.

One night we just had to grab a a burger at Penelope's in Estes Park.  That place still rocks.

While walking around town we came across a free concert in the park.  I'm pretty sure this made Shelby's day.

I love RMNP.

We drove into Littleton so I could show Travis around my hometown.  I couldn't believe at how much it had changed. Still, it was good to be home.

Old House #2

Shelby loved the playground at my elementary school.

Shelby was really tearing up the track at my high school.

The Denver Temple!

The Denver Museum; an old family favorite!  It's still awesome.

I was so glad to see this dino was still at the entrance...

...and to see the saber-tooth tiger was still here.  And it still growls when you put money in its mouth.

We had to drag Shelby out of the Astronaut room.

We ended the day with a trip to Casa Bonita.  Shelby was not a fan of Black Bart's Cave or the Dragon. But, the divers, gorilla and gunfight were a big hit.

Shelby earned her Junior Ranger Badge after 2 days of hard work.  She was too embarrassed to talk to the Ranger who signed her certificate, but she certainly didn't mind showing off her badge.

We hiked to Nymph and Dream Lakes.  Shelby hiked most of the 2 miles herself!

On our last day we hiked our Beaver Meadows.  Travis and Shelby wanted to show off their skills.

Wow, I don't think I'm used to seeing Travis without facial hair! Does he normally shave? Have I not been paying attention?
