In a Nutshell

I'll be the first to admit my life is far from exciting. January was a ho-hum month, which left me with nothing to blog about. I was looking through my photos on my phone a few moments ago and was able to find some highlights from last month. I'm grateful for Shelby who is thoughtful enough to keep things interesting for me.

One day in preschool, Shelby and her classmates made crowns. Shelby thought she was pretty hot stuff with her crown, but when she found my sunglasses she was magically turned into a princess (her Minnie Mouse PJ's have the same magical effect). She sat on our bathroom counter for a good 30 minutes looking at herself and smiling. Love her.

We've been missing some parts to our potato head family. Namely the mouths and glasses because Shelby uses them to play "face." She'll stick the lips in her mouth and puts the teeny tiny glasses on and pretends to be Mrs. Potato Head. It's quite the game. After several days of "face" play the face parts have gone missing. Unfortunately, that makes it difficult to build a potato head family and/or to play the face game. The other day, Shelby and I decided to dig through her toy box to see if we could find the missing pieces. We found the pieces (yay!) and our chicken mask, which was supposed to (but did not) accompany Shelby's chicken Halloween costume last year. She refused to wear it or even to try in on (such a party pooper), until today. And whaddya know?! She thought it was hilarious.

Saturday night, Travis and I decided to take Shelby bowling. Well, actually we decided to take her to Chuck E. Cheese's, but there was a line (a huge, gigantic, colossal size line) to get into Chuck E. Cheese's. That surprised us (I had no idea Chuck E. was so well loved) and we were unwilling to wait in line to eat pizza and play games. Luckily, there was a bowling alley across the street so we decided to bowl a game. Shelby thought bowling was fun, but she was much more interested in watching the bowling balls pop up in the ball return thingamajig. She also took a fancy to her bowling shoes and wanted to take them home with her. Travis bowled a a really good game, somewhere in the 140's and I managed to make it to 94, which is my usual (and unimpressive) score and Shelby made it all the was to 67. Not bad for a first try. For a while, there was a strong possibility that Shelby was going to beat my bowling score. I'm glad I managed to pull off 2nd place. That could have been so embarrassing.

The highlight of the month, however did not include my lovely, little Shelby. My good friend, Erica (hiya Er!) came to Portland a few weeks ago. We were able to go out for a fun night of billiards and Peruvian food. It was great catching up with her and I'm looking forward to her next visit. Which, I'm hoping (and betting) takes place in March. But, I could probably hold out until April. That would be a fantastic birthday present, by the way (hint, hint).

So, there you have it. That was our January. Let's hope February brings me some more fun and excitement!!

I have to ask: Did Shelby have gutter bumpers??? Or did she get that score with the gutters? what a fun family activity...
