Happy Birthday, Shelby

In true 2-year old fashion, Shelby woke up this morning at 5 in the morning. After she convinced me to get out of bed at 5:30 she started in on her tantrum. This was the mother of all tantrums; it lasted for 3 hours. I think that may be a record in our house. Luckily for me, Travis was home this morning and dealt with Shelby until he left for work at 7:30. An hour later, I managed to get out the door to pick up some groceries. Shelby screamed bloody murder the entire time, which was a tad embarrassing. I'm grateful not too many people visit the grocery store that early on a Thursday morning. It wasn't until we pulled into our driveway that Shelby finally quit screaming. Her cousin, Ellie, saved the day. Ellie's presence always evokes the same response from Shelby. Pure happiness. I think for Shelby's birthday gift I'm gonna wrap Ellie up and tie a bow around her and call it good.

Because today is Shelby's special day, I decided to let her eat some of the things we usually don't get around here. For breakfast she had a donut, for lunch she's eating Lucky Charms straight out of the box and for dinner she'll probably skip the hot dogs and mac and cheese and go straight for her cake. But, that's all good. If you can't eat like that on your birthday, then when can you?

I can't believe how much she's grown! Despite the tantrums and early wake up calls, Shelby has blessed my life in more ways than I can count. I can't believe Travis and I managed to survive in our family without her. Her spunky personality puts a smile on my face everyday. And I certainly can't get enough hugs or kisses from my little girl!

My favorite Shelbyisms (at the moment)

1. Making me and Elmo pretend lunch and getting me drinks of water from her kitchen about 100 times a day.
2. They way she says, "mouse" when she wants to watch the Mickey Mouse movies.
3. When Travis is getting her ready for bed and she comes to get me for prayer.
4. Watching her kneel and fold her arms for prayer and the way she says "amen."
5. Seeing her pray on her own without me prompting her to do it.
6. Watching her read books.
7. Watching her brush Elmo's teeth with toothpaste (and she brushes her Elmo Slippers teeth, too. Can't forget those!)
8. Pointing out to me everyday that her daddy has gone to work in his jeep. "Daddy work - Jeep!"
9. Telling her dad to "stop it, please" or "no thank-you" when he's tickling her.
10. Watching her jump on her tramp (old crib mattress) and kissing me each time she jumps off the mattress. I must be her good luck charm, but I'll take it.
