Fake Out

Shelby is extremely attached to her nanny or as the rest of us call it her blanket. I'm not sure how I feel about this attachment, but I'm a little concerned that Shelby has to take this blanket with her most everywhere she goes. Shelby can take her nanny to most places and generally speaking it won't bother me, but when she drags that nanny outside I have to channel my inner peace so I don't freak out.

Shelby's nanny originally belonged to me when I was a baby so not only is it going to be her keepsake, it is also mine. Don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy to share this keepsake with my little Shelby, but I'm afraid she is going to ruin our blanket before other little baby Gray's can snuggle with it as well.

So, I came up with a plan I find quite ingenious. I made (with the help of my master-sewer-mother-extraordinaire) an exact replica of our beloved blanket. I made the blanket switch yesterday while Shelby wasn't looking. When she spotted her new blanket she pointed at it and said, "nanny" and she grabbed it and snuggled it like it has belonged to her forever. I was so happy I was able to pull it off. A part of me thought she'd notice the yellow and white gingham was brighter and the batting was cushier and fluffier. But, she didn't.

Now, Shelby will have a nanny she can drag through mud and I will know that our "real" blanket is tucked safely away in my baby box not getting dirty or otherwise ruined beyond repair.
