Kalliroe - Granny's Greek Name

Granny on her 90th birthday on November 18, 2007

All week I've been thinking about my Granny. So, I thought I'd list of few of my favorite Granny Whiz memories.
  • She would always bake Greek cookies at Christmas and send them to us in the mail. They would be packaged very carefully because she never wanted any of them to arrive broken. They were so delicious. I am glad I know how to bake her cookies so I can carry on the Greek cookie tradition.
  • She taught Beth and I how to play Gin Rummy. When we would go to California to visit her we would play that game forever.
  • She was a crazy driver. Being in the car with her behind the wheel was always an adventure.
  • When my birthday came around, I would always get a birthday card from her cats, Yasmin and Tonya...and later on the cats were Sammie and Christie. She sure loved her Siamese cats.
  • When we would be in California for a visit, she would take Beth and I out to lunch at Coco's so we could be "grown up" like her.
  • I loved the way she said "baklava." It was fun to pronounce it wrong in front of her on purpose. It would make her so angry...until she realized we were teasing her. And then she thought it was funny.

Love you Granny!
